Building the Deck

The deck was easy, I built it by myself in one day. I used 9 cinder blocks that were pre-formed to accept 4x4 posts. Connected to the 4x4s were 2x6s making the frame. More 2x6 lumber on top of the frame finished the deck, all pressure treated.

I dug a shallow trench, put in a 3" conduit and brought electrical and network cable from the house to the observatory coming up from under the deck at the pier. The deck does not touch the pier, there's about a six inch gap all around that I covered with a closed cell foam camping pad. Small blocks of 2x6, one visible here in the top left corner, act as stoppers to keep me from rolling the shed right off the deck!
