Galaxies NGC3718 and NGC3729 - Posted March 25, 2007

These are two very weird looking interacting galaxies in Ursa Major. Appearing just above NGC 3718 is a galaxy cluster known as Hickson 56. It's unusal for me to have two good sized galaxies within the same field of view, which is about 20x30 arcminutes with this setup. When I saw how close they were (using The Sky) I just had to have a go at them. Unfortunately wind gusts on the 18th cut my total usable LUM exposures about in half.
